2021 do your:bit Global Challenge Asia Pacific Award Project- Smart Cane for the Blind
Young people aged 8 to 18 from all over the world took part in do your:bit 2021. They came up with amazing, innovative solutions that worked towards the Global Goals and solved problems facing the world.
What kind of work can be unanimously recognized by the judges among many works?
The Smart Cane for the blind is a multifunctional walking stick that integrates ranging alarm, night light, and remote calling functions. It can use a rangefinder to trigger an audible alarm when the distance is within 50 cm from an obstacle. Blind users can successfully avoid the obstacle through the alarm sound; the remote calling function of the watch also enables users to find the cane conveniently and quickly; The design of the night light belt can make the user attract the attention of others in the dark environment so as not to be hit, which greatly increases the safety level.
Through the introduction and description of the work by the winning contestants, we learned that the inspiration for the smart blind cane comes from the real life of the contestants. "Because an elder in the family has had glaucoma for many years. In the last two years, it has become more and more serious. He can't see the road and is almost blind. It is very detrimental to the physical and mental health of the elders. Learning from the experience, I think I can design a smart cane. Through the Internet, there are currently more than 17 million visually impaired people in China. On average, there will be one visually impaired person in every 100 people. Thus, I want to invite partners to develop intelligence for the blind.”
To help the visually impaired travel better, this is also the original intention of the award-winning contestants to make this work. Creativity and inspiration often come from our real life, and the contestants have an eye for observation and a brain that is diligent in thinking. Driven by their super mobility and imagination, they constantly improve and optimize through their own efforts. Finally finished a good work.
Next, let us learn more about the smart cane through the introduction video of the work.
